Welcome to Southern Alameda County/Tri-City

Nestled between the rolling hills of the East Bay and the southern end of the San Francisco Bay and bordering Silicon Valley lay the communities of Fremont, Union City, and Newark. These three cities, known collectively as the Tri-City Area, are often associated to the Silicon Valley due to the expected overlap of the areas.

Rich in history, Fremont is the home to Mission San Jose, founded by Spanish Missionaries in 1797. The mission was largely destroyed in an earthquake in 1868. The earthquake of 1906 destroyed the Palmdale Winery in Fremont. At the time of the earthquake, the Palmdale Winery was the largest winery in California – wine in Fremont! Between 1912 and 1915 Fremont was the home of the California movie industry, filming several of Charlie Chaplin’s films including The Tramp.

The 1980s and 1990s changed the face of Fremont as well as the entire South Bay when the Silicon Valley became a household term. Apple manufactured their first MAC computers in Fremont, and by 1999, over 750 tech companies opened offices in the area. Today, Fremont is home to the Tesla Manufacturing facility, the largest employer of the city. With the new BART expansion, the division between the Tri-Cities and Silicon Valley will all but disappear.

With excellent schools and lovely natural topography, the lifestyle in this area has a big draw. In 1996, the Arbor Day Foundation awarded Fremont the designation as a Tree City USA as one of 3,400 cities across the USA known for their devotion to urban and community forestry and public attention to the importance of urban forestry. With over 55,000 trees planted across the city, parks and open spaces provide boundless enjoyable outdoor experiences.
