Monterey Coast

The major population hubs are clustered around the bay, with each community fostering its own unique personality.

Welcome to Monterey Coast

Monterey Bay and the surrounding area is one of the most photographed destinations in the world – for good reason. It’s dramatic scenery not only draws visitors, but many seek to call it home. Though the area does not abound in high paying jobs, many secure their “get-a-ways” for weekend unwinds or find that telecommuting is an option especially when the job hub is an hour away for occasional meetings.

The major population hubs are clustered around the bay, with each community fostering its own unique personality. Santa Cruz is a mixture of fun-loving adventures, natural wonders, and educational pursuits at University of California, Santa Cruz campus. This UC campus, renowned for world-changing research in biomolecular engineering, physics, marine sciences, environmental sciences, astronomy and astrophysics provides the serious side to an otherwise playground for fun. From the surf shops to the colorful beach bungalows, the board shorts and bikinis to backpacks and hiking boots, the towering redwoods to the curling waves of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Cruz provides a package that keeps all engaged.

Monterey is the hub of history hosting the first theatre, opening the first public library and providing the first publicly funded school in California. It was the focus of four of John Steinbeck’s novels and his home for a period of time. It now hosts the Monterey Jazz Festival, the Monterey Aquarium, and is the home of several higher educational institutes. People are drawn to Monterey for its diversity of culture but become attached because of the perfect weather and friendly, easy lifestyle of this community.

Carmel is the tiny village with the enormous personality! Founded in 1902, it has been called home by a vast array of artist, musicians, writers, poets, and actors. In 1910, a San Francisco newspaper reported that some 60% of the homes had been built by those that dedicated their lives to the artistic arts. With many homes identified by intersections or even just a personal name, residents receive their mail at the local post office promoting the small-town interaction that we see so little of today. Dog friendly, and casual (high heels are outlawed, Ladies), strolling through town, you will find yourself immersed in the village’s artistic and cultural heritage.
